“I have lost many matches this year which I should have won, this is one I should have lost but I came through. But that is sometimes how grass court tennis works. It came as a bit of a shock and it’s not something I was that prepared for, but you have to draw from experience and physical strength. I live to fight another day. For some reason, I wasn’t able to read his serve. That really rattled me. I had to look for that for a long time. Thank God I found it eventually, He played well. He’s unconventional. He doesn’t look like much, but he definitely plays very solid and plays very uncomfortable. I think he played terrific. He made it hard for me. For me, it’s not normal to be down two sets to love, especially at Wimbledon, and early on in Grand Slams. My whole game was sort of in disarray.” said Federer

“I was thinking that I have a big opportunity to beat Federer here, But I am happy because I played a great match. Today is a special day for me in tennis, even if I lost that match. I can say I was serving for the match against Federer. Many players would like to be in that situation.” said Alejandro Falla

The defending champion came through 5-7 4-6 6-4 7-6 (7-1) 6-0 in an astonishing opening match on Centre Court.

Roger Federer“Yes, I’m very happy. You’ve always got to deal with how your opponent plays. Sometimes he plays like you want, sometimes not. It’s nice going through like this but I already know the next match won’t be this way. I thought he did really well in those five set matches and I expected him to come out here and be really athletic the way we know him. Maybe he was mentally more fatigued than physically.” Roger Federer

Roger Federer“It’s amazing. Definitely one of the most incredible things I have in my resume. I’ve played him many times and I know he goes through phases, you just try to stay positive, I wasn’t playing terribly, just struggling with the sun coming across. It’s like a rain delay, you just wait.” Federer

Roger Federer came from behind to beat Nikolay Davydenko and reach the Australian Open semi-finals.

Roger Federer“I hardly made any unforced errors. If there were some, they were at moments I can live with, I was really able to press on the offensive, serve well when I had to, and I moved well as well. Overall I’m extremely happy.” Federer

“He played special tennis. Tonight was as good as the US Open final in 2004, I prepared exactly the way that I wanted to prepare for the Australian summer. Gave 100% every time. But I ran into the best player at the moment, I would say.” Hewitt

Federer“Now I feel like I can beat everyone, Before no, mostly I was losing against top players, but now I can beat everyone. It’s a good feeling.” Igor Andreev

“I knew it was going to be tough, We played five sets in New York two years ago. I thought I was playing well even in the first set and thought I would hang in there. It was a tough first round and I’m really, really relieved I’m through.” Roger Federer

Federer“I served terribly and that was the main difference in the match. You can’t serve at 40% against Roger because you give him so many opportunities to dictate play.” Andy

”I played a great match and him as well. I’m glad it lived up to the expectation.” Federer
