Literarily speaking ghazal means “to converse with the beloved”

Musically speaking a ghazal is an ancient form of persian/urdu poetry, composed of rhyming couplets and a refrain .. often on the topic of (but not limited t)  love/lost love/unattainable love set to relatively simple music and (ideally) to be sung by those with magnificant vocal powers …

One of the purest form of  expression, its all about translating depth and complexity of emotions into verse …

Anjumann anjumann shanaasai

Dasht-E-Tanhai mein

Dekh tau dil ke jaan se

Ek bas tu hi nahin

Honton pe kabhi unke

Mein ne rooka bhi nahin

Mujh se peli si mohabbat

kab mera nasheman

tu ne buut-e-harjai aisi
